HYPNOTHERAPY HYPNOSIS THERAPY FOR CLAUSTROPHOBIA

WHAT IS CLAUSTROPHOBIA?

Claustrophobia, or the fear of enclosed spaces is one of the most common phobias.  A more accurate description might be 'a fear of not having an easy escape route' because for anyone who experiences this phobia this is the predominating feature - you feel a need to be able to get out or get home, quickly. A person who suffers from claustrophobia may panic when inside any confined spaces such as lifts, planes, crowded rooms or middle seats of cinemas etc.

SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS OF CLAUSTROPHOBIA

Typically claustrophobics display the following behaviour:

  • Upon entering a strange or crowded room, the sufferer will check for exits, will position themselves near an exit. If exits are not readily accessible, the claustrophobic will become  alarmed.
  • When travelling in a car, they will prefer to drive. They will travel outside of peak times and be very unwilling to sit in the back of the car (especially if the car is a two door coupe)
  • Avoiding lifts at all times (one client of mine wanted to walk up five flights of stairs at the hospital where she was about to give birth!)
  • Crowded public transport is a nightmare for the claustrophobia sufferer and they will go to any length to avoid it

HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HYPNOSIS THERAPY TREAT CLAUSTROPHOBIA?

Specific phobias are often childhood fears that were never outgrown. Something traumatic happened to the claustrophobic when a child, perhaps being shut in a dark room, trapped during a childhood game or some other equally frightening event. Regression Hypnotherapy will allow the claustrophobic to revisit the scene and review it with adult eyes.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY:

"Thank you for all your help - I certainly feel much more calmer in situations that used to make me nervous, and I shall continue to test this new positive attitude by getting on the tube at some point in the next week for a few stops!"

"...Yesterday, I even jumped on a train without any second thoughts and I didn't hesitate even though there were no seats free. I haven't done that in a long time especially not during the last few months. It's quite a surprise to me because I was waiting for some kind of panicky feelings to come back. but I felt quite calm......" P.W.
